The West Coast's newest convention giant
The Gaylord Pacific opened on the Chula Vista Bayfront in May 2025 with 1,600 rooms, 477,000 square feet of meeting space, and the 140,049-square-foot California Ballroom & Exhibit Hall, which Marriott bills as the largest ballroom of any hotel in the state. Four ballrooms, 67 breakout rooms, and 135,000 square feet of event lawn along the water. Meeting planners who used to choose between downtown San Diego and Anaheim now have a third answer, and it is seven miles south of the Gaslamp.

A dozen-plus Gaylord events behind the camera
I have photographed at Gaylord properties more than a dozen times, so the format holds no surprises: resort-scale programs where the general session, the expo, the breakouts and the awards dinner all live under one enormous roof, glass-atrium daylight colliding with ballroom stage lighting, and shot lists that cover half a mile of carpet. The Pacific is the newest room on a familiar circuit, and the only one I can reach without an airport. I photograph conference work across every major San Diego venue, and this one is up the street.

- Have you photographed Gaylord events before?
- More than a dozen times. Gaylord runs conventions at resort scale, with the sessions, expo and evening events all inside one property, and that rhythm is the same at the Pacific as at the other Gaylord resorts. I know where the light fights you and how far apart two back-to-back shots really are.
- Do you charge travel fees for Gaylord Pacific events?
- No. I am based in Chula Vista, so the Gaylord is the one major convention property in Southern California that is actually in my home zip-code territory. No travel fees, no hotel nights on your invoice, and if your program adds a second shooter or an early load-in, that costs a phone call rather than a rebooked flight.
- What does conference photography at the Gaylord cost?
- Published rates: $1,195 for a half day of up to 4 hours, $1,980 for a full day of up to 8, commercial license included. A staffed headshot station runs $2,450 half day or $3,950 full day and moves 20-30 people per hour. Multi-day conventions get a custom quote.
- Can you run a headshot station at a Gaylord Pacific conference?
- Yes. The station is self-contained: backdrop, lighting, an operator, and live delivery so attendees get their photo before they leave the foyer. At McKesson ideaShare, a two-day station put 524 attendees through. The Gaylord's 67 breakout rooms and wide pre-function spaces leave plenty of homes for one.
- What insurance or vendor paperwork does the venue need?
- Hotel convention properties ask outside vendors for a certificate of insurance naming the property, and some programs route photographers through the show's general contractor. I carry $2M liability and send the COI before load-in week. One email from you, and the paperwork side is done.
